Transporting surfboards

There can be many obstacles in getting a surfboard from your home to the waves. It is always best to keep your surfboard in a surfboard bag. This will help prevent the surfboard from getting any scratches or dents. It will also prevent the wax from getting into your clothes and furniture. Keeping the surfboard in a bag will help when transporting the board. Many mini-mal boards are tough enough to be kept in a sock, rather than a bag.

By Car

Its always a good idea to carry the surfboard inside the car, if possible. If you have a hatchback of station wagon then shortboards and mini-mals should fit ok if you are own you own. If the surfboard covers the passenger seat then you'll be travelling on your own. If a surfboard does not fit into a car it is possible to carry it on the roof.

Longboards almost always have to carried on the roof of a car or van. Mini-mal boards can sometimes fit inside a car, but often find themselves on the roof. If you have a van you may be able to get all of your boards inside. Bodyboards and skimboards are small enough to fit inside a car.

Hard racks

Hard racks are typical roof racks for a car. Brackets are connected to the rain gutter, or now more commonly specialist bolts inside the door. The brackets are mounted onto bars that stretch across the car roof. Many boards (5+) can be carried on a hard rack. Strong adjustable straps allow many boards to be carried in varying conditions. Rubber or bungy straps often allow the boards to lift in transport and are not advised.

Soft racks

Soft racks

Soft racks are a combination of padding and straps that allow boards to be carried on the roof of any car. Soft racks attach really easily and quickly to almost any car. Up to 6 surfboards can be carried on sturdier types.
